Livestock keeping

Beef Farming

It is one of our passions and runs through our livelihoods. We strive to provide pure breeds of cattle and interbreed various cattle breeds to provide some of the best beef in the market. We have some of the exotic cattle in Africa and in the world. Our expertise team is keen on production and health of the animals. The farm keeps improved breeds and breed up through high quality bulls. We invest in quality bulls with data on heritable traits of economic importance such as birth weights and weaning weights.

Important considerations in regard to our breeds are ease of calving, heat, humidity tolerance, market acceptance, growth rate and carcass quality. Our local breeds are Boran and Sahiwal which are well adapted to the regional climatic conditions. These are further crossbred with other breeds such as Hereford and Charolais to produce hybrid which has a higher vigour than pure breeds. We keep an animal husbandry department to continually improve on our breeds.

Our feeding programme are pasture - based but balanced in terms of nutritional value. We regularly weigh our animals to monitor weight gains thereby determining on improvement on the nutritional value of our feeds. Our vets are keen on vaccinations in order to control disease outbreaks and provide best management practices in order to get the best healthcare for our herds. To avoid fodder poisoning, our teams monitor the preparations of the fields, planting of the right fodder and eliminate any possibility of toxic plants.
